Chart vs the alternatives

The honest comparison is the retainer.

The honest comparison is not another tool. It is the strategy retainer, the freelance consultant, and the agency deck, work that is usually confident guessing with a logo on it.

Where pricing stands. Chart is in early access and purchasing is not open on the site yet, but the prices are set. Each is a one-time artifact, no subscription: the same deliverables agencies bill senior-partner rates for, at a fraction of an agency’s fee.

What you’d assemble instead

The strategy, assembled by hand.

A researched, defensible strategy document the assembled way is a strategist, an analyst, and the research subscriptions under them. Each is real; none of them shows its sources the way the deck claims.

The people

Hire the thinking

  • Marketing strategist1$20-$60/hr

    Posted range, median $35/hr.

  • Market research analyst2$25-$70/hr

Posted range, median $38/hr - the evidence pass behind the deck.

  • Brand strategy engagement3$500-$20,000+

Published fixed-price span: a focused audit up to a full multi-phase rebrand.

A single positioning study at those rates is a four-to-five-figure line before the deck lands - and the deck is its own evidence.

The tools

Rent the research

  • Survey platform, team seats4$30/user/mo

Billed annually, three-user minimum - $90 a month before anyone reads a result.

  • Market data subscription5$199/mo

Entry paid individual account, billed annually - industry statistics and report databases, one seat.

$90 a month for the survey seats alone - the reports, the panels, and the researcher reading them are all extra lines.

Chart is in private beta and prices are not published - none are final yet. The frame we stand behind: the same deliverables agencies bill senior-partner rates for, at a fraction of an agency’s fee, with every claim carrying its source.

Framing, not a measured stat: the posted ranges and list prices are real and sourced below; scope and hours are yours. The service column describes the category broadly, never any one firm, and we quote no one’s rates unverified.

Capability by capability

Receipts, or confidence.

The same comparison as the tables, at a glance: what each way of buying strategy actually verifies. The partial ball in our column is the honest one - the verification spine covers 15 of the 28 deliverable types today.

Category ratings are directional: the services column describes traditional strategy engagements broadly, never any one firm, and the chatbot column describes ungrounded general-purpose answers. Our column is rated only where the capability is verified in the product.

How to read this. The service column describes traditional strategy engagements broadly, never any one firm, and we quote no one’s rates. The structural difference is not speed or price; it is that Chart’s claims carry their sources and an agency’s deck is its own evidence.

And the free option

Just asking a chatbot is free, confident, and guessing. No grounding in your record, no claim ledger, no independent verification, no accountability when it is wrong. Chart answers the same question with the receipt attached: the claim, its stored source, and the verdict of a fact-checker that read one against the other. The demonstration on the overview page lets you sweep between the two answers yourself.

Software? AI strategy-document tools exist, and we will publish a named comparison when we have reviewed them properly rather than quoting marketing pages. Until then the honest sentence is one line long: we have not found another product that persists and independently verifies its claims before writing, and if we do, we will say so here.

The deep FAQ

Which deliverables actually carry receipts?

15 of the 28 deliverable types run the research and verification spine today. Twelve of those close with a Sources & Methodology appendix; three (Demand Model, Channel Operating Plan, Lifecycle System) inject the verified, cited facts directly into the document body. The other 13 types use standard generation from your Brand DNA without the appendix, and nothing on a pack page hides which is which.

How do revisions work?

One structured revision per document, enforced in the database rather than by policy. Describe what is wrong and what right looks like; if the regeneration fails, the revision is refunded automatically and you keep your round.

What happens with health, legal, financial, or age-related claims?

For brands in flagged regulated categories (alcohol, cannabis, nicotine, supplements, gambling, lending, crypto), any claim in those sensitive areas that is not fully source-verified is dropped from the report entirely. Removed, never softened.

How is a report grounded in my brand?

Every document reads from a Brand DNA record extracted from your own site and catalog, tracked field by field including what is absent. Generation is gated on that record being fresh (within 30 days by default), so a report never writes from a stale picture of you.

How do the tiers work?

Four depths: Audit grades what exists, Foundation writes the operating documents, Intelligence reads the landscape with citations, and the Strategy Room synthesizes over your own completed reports. Rooms require a completed earlier tier first; they never start cold.

How fast is turnaround?

Chart writes from your standing brand record rather than a discovery cycle, so a document is a pipeline run, not an engagement calendar. In early access we set expectations per request instead of promising a number we have not earned.

Can my agency use Chart for clients?

That is what the early-access agency track is for. Request access and say so: the receipts, the appendix, and the provenance panel are exactly the pieces an agency needs to stand behind work in front of a client.

What does a labeled gap mean?

It means Chart did not have that signal and said so. Absent and present-but-low are different things structurally, so a report cannot render a confident number where a gap belongs. When the signal lands, the gap fills; it is never papered over.

Can I export the documents?

Every deliverable renders in the reader and exports to PDF. Research-backed documents carry their Sources & Methodology appendix in the export, so the receipts travel with the work.

How do I get access?

Chart is in private beta and purchasing is not open on the site. Request early access and we will bring you in as the catalog opens; prices publish with general access.
